McGregor Fund Announces Executive Search Team
Earlier this year, Kate Levin Markel announced her decision to step down from her role as president to make room for new leadership after 11 years in this seat, and 25 years of service to the McGregor Fund. The Fund’s Transition Committee has now begun work to steward the process of welcoming a new president.
In June 2026, the committee released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to a closed group of executive search consultants. Five teams responded and after a thorough and rigorous process, two organizations were selected to lead the search:
- The Hunter Group, based in Metro Detroit, is led by partner and owner Blaire Miller, a native Detroiter with 15 years of recruiting experience in the region. The firm specializes in social services and is a leading recruiter in this field across Southeast Michigan.
- Boardwalk Consulting, based in Atlanta, is led by Crystal Stephens, CEO & Managing Director, who has been with the firm for 14 years. Boardwalk works exclusively with foundations and nonprofits and has conducted more than 70 executive searches for foundations, including placing 50 foundation CEOs.
Blaire and Crystal have partnered for more than 10 years and will work together throughout every stage of the search to identify and seat the McGregor Fund’s next president. They bring a strong combination of local knowledge, national experience, and deep expertise in nonprofit and philanthropic leadership. The committee was particularly impressed by their flexibility, commitment to inclusion, and high emotional intelligence. Both firms have a strong track record of maintaining diverse candidate slates and diversifying C-suite leadership across the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.
